Dry Martini i ukryta restauracja/ Dry Martini and a hidden restaurant

Świętowanie urodzin Nuno (trochę spóźnione) i moich imienin zasługiwało na jakąś specjalną oprawę. A może po prostu musieliśmy mieć jakąś wymówkę, żeby wybrać się do legendarnego koktajlbaru Dry Martini. Po baskijskich przekąskach w Maitea, która mieści się z trzy ulice od Dry Martini, znaleźliśmy się w innym świecie. Szyk, elegancja, wyszukane koktajle. I jeden z sekretów Barcelony, ukryta restauracja Speakeasy. Pisać z doświadczenia mogę jedynie o Dry Martini, bo do restauracji nie mieliśmy rezerwacji, którą trzeba zrobić dużo wcześniej. I trzeba wiedzieć, jak Speakasy znaleźć, bo szyldu nie ma, a wejście ukryte jest za drzwiami w koktajlbarze, kelner prowadzi nas do sali restauracyjnej.

Nam wystarczyły jednak dwa idealne koktajle. Nie bez powodu Dry Martini zajmuje 12 miejsce na światowej liście najlepszych barów. Wystrój baru nie do końca pasuje do naszego głośnego i przejaskrawionego XXI wieku. Czujemy się, jakbyśmy przenieśli się w czasie o kilka dekad, obsługują nas kelnerzy w białych uniformach, a koktajle przygotowują starsi barmani. Jako że nie ma karty drinków (oprócz kilku kombinacji smakowych mojito czy Martini), można wdać się w rozmowę z barmanem, który po wypytaniu jakie smaki lubimy, potrafi wyczarować idealny koktajl.

This Saturday we celebrated Nuno’s birthday (bit late, but still) and my name day. Or maybe we just needed a valid excuse to a legendary cocktail bar, Dry Martini. After some basque montatidos in Taberna Maitea, which is located just three blocks from Dry Martini, we found ourselves in another world. It can be only described by being chic, elegant, sophisticated And it is also where one of Barcelona’s cuisine secrets is hidden, a restaurant Speakeasy. I can only write about Dry Martini though, as we didn’t have a reservation for Speakasy (it it said that reservation is obligatory and you can make it at the very last moment). But you still have to know where to look for it, as there is no sign and the entrance is hidden at the back of the cocktail bar, where a waiter awaits to show you a way to a dining room. Everything seem a top secret.

We were there for the cocktails, and I must say they were one of the most I’ve ever tasted. Well, no wonder Dry Martini appears on the 12th place of 50 best bars in the world. The place makes you feel special. The décor doesn’t really fit our hectic, too noisy, too flashy 21th century As you walk in, you feel as if you travelled few decades in the past. The place is classy, you are being served by a waiter in a white uniform and your cocktail is prepared by an elderly bartender. Since there is no a proper cocktail card, you can just say what alcohols and flavors you like, and a bartender prepares you the perfect cocktail.
